TASK #5
In the twentieth century, globalization and modernization contributed to the outbreak of incredibly violent global conflicts. The First World War and the Second World War shaped the first half of the century, and the Cold War dominated the second. Each war demonstrated humanity’s capacity for extraordinary destruction. These wars disrupted millions of lives and led to political upheaval and redrawing of national boundaries.
In this task, you will be required to prepare a multimedia presentation that describes the causes of one of these conflicts and discusses the effects of the conflict on three different regions of the globe. In addition, you will analyze how a primary source relates to the conflict in your presentation.
Requirements:

A. Create a multimedia presentation (e.g., PowerPoint, Keynote) in which you do the following:
1. Describe the major causes of the following conflict:
● World War II
2. Discuss the effects of the conflict you described in part A1 on three of the following parts of the world:
● Eastern Europe
● Western Europe
● Middle East
● Africa
● Asia
3. Analyze how the given primary source (found in the Web Links section below) relates to your selected conflict.
B. Provide acknowledgement of source information, using in-text citations and references, for quoted, paraphrased, or summarized content.
1. Include the following information when providing source references:
• author
• date
• title
• location of information (e.g., publisher, journal, or website URL)

Task 5 is a multimedia presentation that consists of several parts. The first part of the task requires you to use some media other than text (maps, photos, images, or other multimedia) to support your presentation. The rationale behind this requirement is to get our Teacher’s College students to think about how they would use multimedia in the classroom; or how they would use multimedia to teach. Even though the task is a multimedia presentation, your answers should be direct and through, in a short-essay type format like the previous tasks. You will need more than “bullet points”. The only difference with the previous tasks besides the multimedia requirement is that most students compose Task 5 in a PowerPoint (or Keynote, Google Slides, etc.) application.

The next parts of the task will ask you to explain the causes and effects of a twentieth-century conflict. In the “causes” section, be sure to do more than list the causes of the conflict; instead explain how the events you listed contributed to the outbreak of the war. And in the “effects” section you’ll want to do more than say what happened during the war, or list occurrences. One way to address this is to describe how the war changed the areas in question. When historians talk about “effects” of some event we really mean “what difference did this make” or “why was this important or significant”. Finally, we will ask you to analyze a primary source image and describe not only what the image depicts, but explain the relationship between the image and the conflict.
